Local girl comes to Beijing. Sings.

Kiri Te Kanawa performed a solo concert here at The Egg last night. Just her and a pianist. Despite being driven there by a work car (Reid is still the boss, so we rate transport) we were running a little late and had to sneak into the hall while she was clearing her throat for the first song.

There were several intermissions, during which the folks who’d been given seats departed and never came back, but despite this it was an amazing performance, in a small 2000 seat hall (one of the smaller ones in the Egg).

Her final encore was sung in Maori. All the New Zealanders present spontaneously burst into tears.
